Water Pump Problem?

Hello I have a 98 Dodge Dakota, I just ran to the grocery store and when I came out it was leaking anti freeze from around the Water pump area. As far as I can tell it is not leaking from any hoses. How can I trouble shoot the water pump? The heat is not working like it should either. I live in MN and just drove back today from Upper Michigan, it ran fine all the way home. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Motor is a V8 318 has 110,000 miles.

I'm not sure about the modern 318s, but many water pumps have a "weep hole" on the water pump
If it's leaking you replace the pump

Look for a hole about 1/4-3/16 inch in diameter. It is usually centered or slightly to one side of the centerline of the water pump shaft on the bottom. If the leak is bad enough you will see antifreeze coming out. On small leaks it maynot even be wet but you can usually see a stain or discoloration from where the antifreeze was leaking and has evaporated from the heat of the engine.
