How difficult to change a master cylinder?

Does anyone know how difficult it is to change a master cylinder? I don't have any experience with mechanics but I will have a repair manual. Should I attempt it myself, or take it to an expert?

Just follow the directions closely. There should be instructions with the new part for bench bleeding prior to installation. Pay close attention to this procedure, it is absolutely essential.

Also do yourself a favor get some proper flare nut wrenches so you do not round off the fittings.

In addition to the other posts, I would add that if your talking brakes and your car is non ABS you should be fine. But, since you say you are not mechanical, If your car does have ABS brakes, go directly to a professional. Good luck

It's not a difficult repair from a technician's point of view but it does have a lot of potential for problems if your doing this for the first time. Anything from damaging fittings or threads to not being able to get a brake pedal back.
