replacing ignition switch

I have an old F100 and I need to replace the ignition switch. However, Im not sure if I need to call a locksmith to remove the old one. I can get my hand behind the ignition switch and push and turn but Im unable to remove it. Your response is appreciated. Dan

You'll need to provide the year of the truck.

Do you have the key? If so probably 1978 back there was a hole in the key lock cylinder. You stuck a paper clip in the hole and turned the key to ACCESSORY. And pull lock cylinder out. Now on the later ones stick the key in and turn it to RUN. You will see a hole on the bottom side of the lock cylinder stick a punch or anything that fit in the hole and push. Key cylinder should release.
