neddle bounces up and down above 30 mph. I took out cable and lubed with white litheum but no change?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the same thing happened to me, just before my tranny went out.

Alot of the times this is a speedometer head assembly. It could be a speed sensor? But a transmission I don't think so!

Hogfan--It was in the head. The rearend of the shaft the needles on fits into a small hole in the magnet. I had to cleanout that hole (twice) and now working well.
