Dashboard Voltmeter Reading

What is the meaning of the position of the needle on the dashboard voltmeter? What is the normal position?

While the engine is running the needle should be above 12 volts. Usually there is a 12 and a 16 on the meter, the needle should be pointing somewhere close to halfway between those 2 numbers. If it is below 12 then you are not charging properly. Depending on design, it should show somewhere between 12volts and that same halfway (14) mark when the engine and ignition switch are off.
Hope this is helpful to ya,
