low on automatic transmission fluid

The automatic transmission in my 1995 Sable has started to pause for a few seconds when I start to pull away from stop lights, signs, etc. I checked the fluid level , and it appears to be low, but am puzzled about where I should put more in. My owners manual says to put the fluid in the filler tube. Can that be right?

The owners manual is right (why wouldn't it be?). The correct fluid would be Mercon. Correct level would put the fluid in the crosshatch AT OPERATING TEMP.

The filler tube is where the dipstick is. You have to use a funnel to put it in. Did you check the fluid lever with it in park and the engine running?
