idle air control??

93 lumina eurosport 3.1... runs like crap, missing when at idle...tapping on the idle air control makes rpms go up and then back to missing...is there a way to check this component or is it probably it? any other hints maybe?

thanx, Sal

Pull the wires off the coils and the plugs and look for black soot or white corrosion or rust.If you have any of these let us know.IAC valves don't go bad very often on GM cars.

My experience with GM idle controls (and it has been quite a while since my last personal contact) is that they need to "learn" the position of the pintle. This usually requires driving the car for soe distance.

HTH.

THis is a really stupid question, but what is the difference between loping, misfireing, or rough idling?

Exclamation i would have to say...

that rough idling is that at idle or a stop light the engine surges or sputs, almost like a misfire, but runs smooth when at higher rpm...

a misfire, i would say, is when in park sounds like a dragster and lets say u are in your driveway in drive, place your foot on the brake and the other on gas and rev to 2000 rpm without moving the car and it still doesnt run smooth...

a loping is when u run off to vegas and marry some hottie that doesnt have a rough idle and revs at high rpm....misfire will happen later....
