Exclamation Headlights-high beams work but low beams don't

I have an a '93 Chev Lumina APV minivan, and for no apparent reason the low beam headlights stopped working entirely. High beams work fine. Have checked fuses, relays, looked at switch, even replaced headlight bulbs, but nothing has worked! HELP!!! I am suspicious of the turn signal lever where you switch from low beams to high beams, mainly because I've run out of ideas. Can anyone help me please???!! I'm petrified to take this old car to a dealer, for I can only imagine what exorbitant price they would charge for an "electrical problem". Any help DEEPLY appreciated!!

I wont comment too much on the "exhorbitant price" idea other than to say if they fix it, what's exhorbitant.

Can't speak for the APV but I have seen pick-ups with faulty multifunction switches and even burned wiring at the multifunction switch. IIRC, you should be able to access the switch to inspect it and the wiring by removing the steering column garnish... 3 or 4 screws and the upper and lower halves should separate. You may have to remove the tilt lever and/or the ignition lock cylinder to comlete the process.
