OK, here goes:

This morning I backed my truck into my wife's 1997 Subaru Outback. The end of the truck bumper punched a circular-shaped dent/depression into the Subaru front bumper, about 2"-3" inches deep and about 6"-8" inches in diameter. Everything else is fine.

I'm recently laid-off, and money is very tight. I'm reasonably handy, though not much experience with auto body work.

Can someone suggest a way (and alternatives, if possible) to fix this. It doesn't have to be perfect. Thanks in advance.

Try heating it with a blow drier or heat gun and massage it back into place. It does have the plastic painted cover on it correct?

Not sure about what it's made of.

It certainly isn't metal! Does feel like plastic, looks like silver paint on it, not sure what you mean by "cover".
