Cummins with blow-by

Recent routine maint on my 94 Freightliner with 205,000 miles and a C8.3 Cummins shows 15" of blow-by.

1. Shop wants to replace piston rings, liners, and the rod/main/thrust bearings.

2. Shop suggests rebuilt head and turbocharger, and new injectors.

I'm okay with #1, but is #2 really necessary?

I think the shop is looking at the 200+ miles. If the pistons & sleves are worn out, what kind of shape are the injectors & valves & guides & bearings in the turbo like?? If they do a lower end o-haul & you have issues with a turbo seal or poor injectors or other top-end failure in the near future, they don't want to argue with you about who covers the cost of the second repair. If you want to keep the truck, I think the wise thing to do is fix it as they recomend. Good Luck (R)
