auto carpets

I might not be in the right forum...
Someone left my car in the rain with the window open for 4 days. The carpets are full of mildew with a powerful stench. I had the carpets shampooed, the interior detailed as well but the stench is getting worse. Apparently it will cost a fortune to rip up the carpets and put new ones in. Any ideas on how to get the mildew out?

Not much I think you can do short of replacing them. Problem is it's in the padding, also when it's replaced the floor has to be wiped down with a bleach mixture to kill the mold on the floor pan.

I have seen it affect the seats also.

Hope you got my thanks for the reply message! I have another question: If I have to rip out my carpets in the car and install new ones, is my only option to go to the dealer of my car?
You never said what make, model etc.

Carpets are available from other sources besides the dealer
