Drive belt fell off, could changing the water pump be the cause?
The drive belt fell off my 87 Astro V6.
I've had numerous problems with the engine bracket and power steering pump which have cause problems in the past.
However, I just recently had replaced a broken water pump. Now a week later, my drive belt has fell out, and one side of it is basically shredded.
Could this have been caused by incorrect tension after having the water pump replaced? Any input would be highly appreciated.

I'd inspect the tensioner assembly and alignment of all the pulleys after installing a new belt. Sometimes the tensioners get weak on these and let the belt move on the pulleys causing your concern.

Also make sure the belt is fitted into the grooves of ALL the pulleys properly. If the belt is riding one groove out on only one pully, it will tear that side of the belt & will jump off!!
