screwdriver start

i have a 1991 lincoln town car, one day it would not start,turn the key nothing happened. i raised the hood with key on took a screwdriver and crossed out at the silonoid and it started. i thought the key switch was bad so i replaced it. the same thing, nothing.i checked wires at starter there all good. i need help. thanks.

Most of the time this a starter solenoid that you jumped. Get someone to turn the key and check for power on the small push on wire. (red/blue) If power is there than solenoid is bad. (with the key in the start postion)

I'd be willing to bet it was the solenoid... shorting it to start it just bypassed the switch built in the solenoid (which sounds like its gone south)...
