Transmission Whine

I have a 96 Ranger XLT 5-speed 130K 4 cyl. Just recently I started hearing a low-pitched whine when going 45-50 MPH. Jacked the truck up and checked fluid in differential fine, had play in drive shaft which I think is acceptable, rear brakes fine, finally ran truck through gears with rear jacked off ground and whining came from transmission. Looked up troubleshooting and came upon a possible, could the pilot bearing be starting to go on trans. ?? Any other ideas would be helpful . Thanks
Bill

I dont see the pilot bearing or bushing making the noise you describe there is sevaral bearings internal to the transmission that could be making noise.
