Gas mileage question..

On pickup trucks, does the gas mileage really increase with the tailgate down. I have heard yes and no, would love to know which is right.

while obviously it can reduce drag but you really wont make any noticable difference in your gas mileage but im sure it may help some but not enough in my opinion to leave the tailgate down.

I just saw an actual test of this maybe a month ago
Mmmm...I'll try and remember who did it
But the thing was, as a general rule it didn't help to put the tailgate down
It actually made things worse
Taking it off didn't really help
But a tonneau cover did help
I'll try and find the study...or remember where it was I saw it

On my truck, it kinda has to stay down. Left latch is missing, right latch is stuck shut, only way to keep it closed is with a bungee cord which looks kinda rednecky (no offense to anyone), kinda a redneck myself. At one point I had 10 cars and trucks in my yard.
