Clearing Computer Codes on 1996 Olds

Can anyone tell me how to clear the computer code on a 1996 Oldsmobile 88 with a V6 engine so my "check engine" light will go off? Will appreciate any help offered. Thanks.

Tell us what engine & what the codes are. If it's OBD2, you'll have to fix the problem first

Yup. OBD2 would require a repair to clear, unless a number of ignition cycles were met, it will clear itself--depending on the DTC (code).

Visit your local Auto Zone if you have one. They can both read the code (so you can tell us what it is) and clear it. As noted, unless you fix the problem, the light will come back on.

Measure it with a micrometer; cut it with an ax.

maybe an easy fix?

Try unhooking your battry ground for 5 minutes, and putting it back on. Turn your key to the run positiom, ( DONT START IT! ) count to 5, turn it off for 30 seconds, now start car. It worked on mine, hate that pestky Check Engine lite.

Even if it's the wrong answer? (i.e. won't work)
