Lumina Nightmare

I have a 1990 Lumina sedan, with a 3.1 MPFI engine. I bought it from a neighbor who just gave up on trying to get it running again. The fuel pressure regulator had ruptured and was flooding the throttlebody thru the vacumn port. I fixed that, now the oil pump seems to have quit pumping oil. I have changed the oil and filter, using a heaver viscosity oil, as the old oil had a LOT of gas in it. I read in the Manual that There is a oil pump gear drive where the old disatributor shaft use to be. If the gear is stripped or broken, can I change it without doing the pan/oil pump deal?

oil pump drive

the oil pump drive is under the throttle body, right behind the intake manifold. It's about 2 inches around. But I've never seen one break only leak.
