Angry bad running 429ci ford!

71' Ford T'Bird,429ci thunder jet,53000 org'l miles, always gargaged & serviced at a ford dealership(always). MY folks gave it to me & it ran fine for about a yr,then started running rough, died at lights & etc. Did the following: plugs, points, cond's,cap, rotor, wires, rebl'd carb, set timing, new vacuum adv's,checked & fixed 3 vacuum leaks(18lbs now),set choke adjm't. Now,if you don't keep it running @ high rpm's when starting cold, till it warms up,it will flood out & die or back-fire up thru carb. Even when warm it still runs real bad! as of this post I have not took a compression test which is next! Any ideas as to what i'm missing? I have rechecked firing order, timing and etc.THANKS in advance!

How's the tailpipe look?
Any black soot around it?

Did you test the coil?

Also did you check to see if the timing chain was off or sloppy?
I mean, did you get the #1 [email protected] and the pointer was @ 0* with no play in it?
If it jumped a tooth or something...
