gasoline in diesel engine

Just out of curiosity, would it damage a diesel engine to be run on gasoline for a short period (few miles)??

I ask because I drive a diesel and I ran out of fuel once. The problem is service stations that sell diesel are rather scarce near my home, so I had to trek really far to get to a station with diesel. Would it have been damaging if I put in say, 1 gallon, of reuglar gasoline and drove to a diesel station and filled up??

thanks!

For sure dont do it. Id carry a 1 gal can with me all the time if its that bad there. Dont forget you could use the pink stuff just to get by. Thats oil burner fuel and farm diesel #1 and #2. Works just as good. If D.O.T. or a cop stop you besure and tell them you ran outof fuel is why its pink in the tank.
