Volvo Belly-up

Yesterday evening when I went out to move my '01 XC70 (110,000 mi.) in my drive, it would not crank. The starter turned over OK, but not a chirp from the engine. It ran earlier in the day fine. I had the electronic throttle module replaced about a year ago (no small expense) and have about 6000 miles on it. Is it possible that the new ETM is now kaput? Can the engine computer codes be displayed on this car without a separate instrument? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked for spark? Is the check engine light on?

You need to verify spark and fuel. Personally, I would pull the fuel line and check for fuel first. You might have a bad fuel pump. They tend to fail at startup as you describe.
