Honda Accord hesitation

I have a 1988 Honda Accord LXI with 54,000 actual miles which is driven only a couple times a month. It recently would not start so I took it to a local repair shop that has a fairly good reputation. They installed a new fuel pump and gsoline filter. (near the firewall when I got the car back it hesitated on giving gas and hesitated more on going up a incline. I took it back and they supposedly checked it and cleaned the filter . Then they said it needed to be driven hard with a fresh tank of gas since it had sat a lot of time without being driven hRD. i called a local Honda dealer and was told that since it wasover ten years old they would not work on it. I was astonished and made my mind u immediately to write Honda and inform them that I would never buy another Honda.
I now have a car that hesitates when acceleration and goinbg up a slight hill.
Will a fresh tank of gas and a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner help this situation. The repair shop insist tha it only needs driving hard an doften.
Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

Not an expert, but a lot of

Honda's have a known problem with a main relay under the dash, it tends to fail when it gets hot, you may also want to check the fuses and other relays in this circuit.
