chevy astro van overheating

I have a 1995 Chevy Astro work van that runs good but lately in hot weather and only when the air conditioner is on the temp. gauge starts to climb and will go into the red if I let it. When the weather is not hot I can run the a/c with no problems.

Does the temp go to the red while you're sitting still, going down the road, or both?

If only when sitting still then suspect your cooling fan clutch.

I notice it most when I'm driving down the road.
