Is the gas stale or does it have water in it? Condensation will put water in the tank. You shouldn't have to drop the tank to drain. Just disconect the gas line. Sometimes adding 5 gal of high test along with a can or two of drygas will work but replacing the gas is always better than trying to doctor it up.

and invest in a bottle of stabil(sp?) if you are going to let it sit. even if your not. heck adding it after you drain it would be a good idea. cant hurt.

Depending on how long it's been sitting you may have to drop the tank, dissemble the carb, and clean out the lines
