Gas Tank Inner Tray - 87 GMC Safari

I just got my 87 GMC Safari back from the body shop. It had a head-on with a tree but it was fixable. Anyway, it quit running and I traced the problem to the fuel pump. The collision yanked the fuel pump loose.

When I removed the fuel pump, which is in the gas tank, I noticed a white plastic tray inside.

My question is: is that plastic tray supposed to just float around loose in there or is it supposed to be fastened in place somehow?

Thanks

most are fastened to the bottom of the tank ,some baffles has supports that extend to the top and sides of the tank to prevent movement, it should not float around or come up from the bottom of the tank at all as it can cause driveability problems.

Well, I went ahead and replaced it. I noticed the new tank has metal baffle's that are welded in.
