Transmission ?

Ihave a 1998 expedition, i just had another transmission put in it (used), it drives ok, but the problem is when i go to shift the gear column to p/d.n/ etc it mooves to smooth, before it was a little hard, but now when you move it you have to do it slow, because its like you will miss the designated gear. is this a linkage issue

Since it is another trans I would suspect the shift rod assembly inside the trans. It could be a linkage issue also. However, the "stiffness" inbetween the shifts are generated by a detent spring assembly and if this beaks you may be able to slide the shift level with little resistance. An easy way to check this would be to remove the shift cable from the trans and try moving the shift switch by hand. If it is still has low resistance then the problem is inside the trans.
