where to start an clutch

i'm new here
was wondering if its ok for me to ask if anyone has ever replaced a clutch
in a 89 chevy spectrum
just got the car thought i was getting a decent deal sense it was free
front brakes locked up but free now
but the little bugger wont go into gear unless the thing is not running.
need to know how to replace and adjust clutch
any and all help welcome

If you're going to work on this car do yourself a favpr and spend the 12/15 bucks and get yourself a Chiltons or Haynes manual.

Sounds more like the clutch cable then the clutch.

where to start

have checked the cable and repaired the hole in the firewall where the cable
comes out. withthe clutch depressed and tranny in gear on start up the car wants to jump
i have a sneaky feeling the clutch is not disengaging.
i have chilton and haynes that cover other makes and models
chevy but cant seem to locate one for chevy / geo spectrum

Check for one for an Izuzu I-mark....same car.
