97 Ford Taurus, losing power, low idle

My wife's 1997 Ford Taurus with 125000 miles on it has begun to shudder at idle. It drives ok when it is moving, but it chugs at idle, sounding like it is going to stall.

I don't have much history with this vehicle, but she has had it for 4 years.

It began doing this after I checked the oil last week and topped it up with 1 quart.

I must keep this car running for another 2 months when we get her new car.

Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Since it happened right after you checked/added oil, make sure the oil cap is tight and the dipstick is pressed down all the way and check for any loose vacuum hoses. Also check or replace the PCV valve.
