Cool 1991 Dodge Dakota oil pan gasket

Hi and thanks in advance for any help.

Problem: Oil pan gasket was leaking oil.
Engine is a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder.

Raised the engine and tranny(5 speed), took off old gasket and replaced with new one. Now I am losing twice as much oil as before. I made sure to use silicone around the main bearing seal corners, like the book said to. But now the rear main is leaking by ferouciously. 3 quarts in 45 miles. I am wondering if I should remove the inspection plate to the clutch to do this. It looked like I had plenty of room to slide the pan back into place.
This was a pain in the butt the first time. So I don't want to do it again but I am left with no choice. Not unless I buy my oil by the barrel. :-)

Thank you

Of course remove the inspection plate. Be sure pan gasket surface is clean and flat and bolt holes are not deformed.

Did you make sure the oil pan was straight? If you didn't straighten it it will continue to leak. The job also may have required new pan bolts.

Thank you for your advice.
Was trying to save time. I will take the plate off and check the pan again. It was straight. But I might have twisted it putting it back up.

Will let you all know when I finish again.

Again. Thanks for the help.
