99 malibu dead computer

car quit , dash digital odometer is blank, scan tool can't communicate w/ computer

now it does start, scan tool, no communication, display still blank ..runs crappy, of couse

checked fuses, ok

where is computer physically located ..??

does it have the VIN # on it ..??

i am very suspiscious that the computer is a replacement to hide the originlal mileage.....

there has been an unbeliveable number of repairs to this POS, suppossed had 12k on it when purchased.................

I agree that the computer may have been swapped out in the past. However, before you conclude anything, be sure that you are following the correct procedure for your specific reader for pulling codes. For example, if your code reader requires the make and model, engine, etc, then be sure you select the correct options.

dude ...

it's OBD2 ....

the dash fields that display computer generated data are black...

computer meltdown, i would say, need to find the unit to check ground, etc

if a rebuilt was installed, it makes sense it crapped out .....

If the computer is bad, it should fall under the 8/80 warranty for emissions items. Not sure what your mileage is.
However, I have seen ignition switches cause similar problems to what you are experiencing.

don't foget, t runs ... badly ..

i think that would rul out the IGN switch ...

still lookin' for the ECM .....

The ign. sw. is often in a direct line from the battery to the ECU relay
A faulty switch could make the computer unreadable by a scanner in the KOEO mode, yet the vehicle can start and the ECU can be read in the Engine Running mode

I think you're comp is toast though
Sorry I don't know where they are on a Malibu
