Life of AC compressor?

My AC has not been working well, cooling but not as well as it had been. Asked the mechanic to check it out, thought it might just need charging. He is saying he thinks it is the compressor. This system is not even 2 years old, and he is the one who installed it! He is saying that you may only get a couple of years from a compressor here, as it gets almost daily use for 9 months of the year?

I have no real reason to doubt him,he has worked on my cars for years and always done good work as well as going out of the way to help. Is it really likely that you would only get 2 years forman AC compressor?

Oh, it's a 1988 Chevy Suburban. Please don't laugh! It works great!

sometimes they do not last long even on newer vehicles that may only be a couple of years old, sometiomes they will last a long time, sometimes not.

Might not hurt to get a second opinion, maybe from a specialty a/c shop. Don't tell them in advance what the other diagnosis is and see what they say. There are several reasons why your cooling could be less than optimal
