350 engines

This may be a stupid question. But, what is the difference between a crate motor and a long block?

If your suggesting that the term 'crate' means short block, etc, then I have never heard of that.

A crate motor from GM will have the sheet metal on it.[ oil pan, valve covers, timing cover ect] A long block you will have to clean and swap the parts over.

Crate motor means that the engine is either a new or remanufactured engine that does not come in a vehicle, it comes in a crate ready for installation in your vehicle. Long block simply means that the engine has all of the engines physical components... Block, heads... Where you purchase either will depend on what else you get...ie... sheet metal, intake manifold etc...
Hope this helps ya,
