Question 1987 firebird

i hav an 87 firebird V6 2.8L...the car runs great but i have difficulty starting it....if i pump the gas for a little right after i crank the engine it works but then the check engine light goes on...any idea why the car wont start right up.(i for got 2 mention befor....its fuel injected)

It could be a number of things, but the most obvious is the carburetor may be out of adjustment. You could have a choke problem. If you are mechanically inclined then you might want to attempt to adjust the choke to correct this. If this does not correct it then you may want to consider either rebuilding the carb or purchasing a rebuilt one. But you may be able to find someone who is willing and able to adjust it and that may be all it needs. The check engine light comeing on??? Does it stay on??? Does it eventually go out? You may want to get a shop to read your computer to see what codes are stored and go from there.
