Old cars are diffrent from new cars old cars you put on some headers a better carb and a bigger exaust.New cars are limited to chips, cold air induction, and maybe some nitrous if you really want to get crazy.

Ok Ok

OK you have a diesel not a torque monster but a diesel can be souped up with a turbo.I guess it all depends on how much cash you have they are not cheap.

other

I read on the internet something abot the air intake system. I read that the more air a diesel machine gets, the greater power it receives. I also read that if you place an addon on the air filter, that kind of swirls the incomming air, that gives your car about an extra 20 hp. Is all that true? Does anyone have any personal experience with such a gizmo?
Another thing - are the turbo and the air intake system the only things I can do up?

It needs a corresponding measure of fuel also
If the air filter, is an actual restriction, a different air filter may free up some power, but there is also I chance it won't help, and actually hurt power

No
It is possible that it might help some car somewhere increase power
But mostly that's a load

You've got kind of an unusual engine for hot-rodding
I think some VW folks may provide you with more specific answers
I have a link to a VW forum around here somewhere, I'll see if I can find it
If anyone would know if it's possible to hop up a 1.9 diesel they would
Ah, here it is..the VW Vortex

Yeah, I think turbo is the best you can do. You should just leave it as is, seeing as how you own a diesel, with gas prices the way they are, you probably get excellent mileage. Save your money and enjoy the your miles to the gallon ratio. Or sell it and buy a Honda Civic if you really need to supe something up.
