2000 cougar blower motor
I lost the 3 low speeds on the blower motor today. only the #4 setting
(high) works. any ideas on where to start looking? the fan was running
at setting 2 and just died. i opened the hood to see if i could see the blower motor and all i can say is wow.. it that thing packed tight. might the resistor be under dash?

autozone repair guide
the autozone repair guide does not list the 2000 cougar but the 1999 year model is listed.
that does state that it's in the evap area, accessable from under dash passenger side. question is how alike are the 1999 vs 2000 models?

Your headed in the right direction. The resistor is under the passenger side dash next to the blower motor. If i remember right, you just have too remove the lower dash cover and the resister is held in by one torx type screw size t-27 or t-20 can't remember which. From your description i'd agree the resistor is your most likely cause.

thanks for all the info
thanks for all the info. will have it checked out.
check engine light just came on also. it was a car i bought for my daughter who has since "moved on" to her own. the good news is i bought an extented warranty that's still in effect (yay!). will see about the recall and get both fixed. thanks for all your help
