water in oil "71" Volvo Pinta marine engine

Recently rebuilt engine, good compression, four cylinder engine. Is there anyting that I can check, short of tearing the engine down again? Perhaps something to do with impeller of water pump. No heating problems to speak of.

Im guessing its watercooled right? If so, sounds like a possible blown head gasket.

Good compression would not be indicative of blown head gasket.

Not necesserilly(did I spell that right?) Anway, The head gasket may not be fully "blown" but the crack/tear could expose a coolant/water passage to the cylinder. Cooling systems are sealed, so There wouldnt be any effect on compression. Cooling systems build up ALOT of pressure when hot, which is why you dont open radiator caps

Good point Kartracer55, looks like the most likely problem. Thanks for the input.
