Car cuts out.

I have recently got a 1979 Datsun 280zx running after it had been sitting for about 10 years. It the only problem I am having now is that the engine will cut out when the it gets up to about 3500+ rpm. Could a clogged fuel filter or carb be causing this or would it be something else? Thanks a lot for the info.

Have you replaced the plug wires by any chance?

Yes, I replaced the plugs and plug wires prior to starting the car. Thank you for all of your help guys! I'll let you know what I find out asap.

I had a 1975 Datsun 280Z once and I drove it across country and on occasion maybe every five or six hours, the engine would start sputtering and die, after an hour or two, it would start up and run like a champion until the next bout. I stopped in half a dozen dealerships trying to figure out the problem. It turned out to be an engine fuse that was malfunctioning. Apparently, when there was an electrical short or an overheating problem, this fuse would shut the engine down to protect it. I hope this helps you out.
