Toyota Thermostatic Air Cleaner always open

'88 Toyota Corolla 4A-F 2bbl carb with heat riser to TAC
No matter how hot it gets there is always vacuum to the TAC, pulling the door open, sucking the hot air from the heat shield riser into the air cleaner

There appears to be a temp sensor (well, it could be) in the air cleaner housing, but it does not seem to be connected to the TAC

The vac hose is not connected to anything I immediatly recognize as a control that I could replace

Any hints, tips, tricks, or suggestions would be appreciated
Thank You

Further Investigation

Hmmm...it seems I hooked up something wrong when putting the engine back together
For sure this vac line from the TAC goes to a ...thingie on the air cleaner housing
Plastic white body hangs outside (w/vac attach)
Inside a creamy filling...no wait...
...a bronze nut?
Looks like I can adjust this thing by loosening the nut
Huh...can I adjust the "temp" on this thing?
Or must I replace it?
