It's an 1987 Tercel wagon, 4 cyl 5-speed. Starter went out, replaced it. A few months later, began having incidents where turning the key to start would not engage starter, but the interior lights, underhood light, radio, etc worked fine. Repeaded tries would eventually start the car just fine. Over time, it progressively took longer and longer to get the car to start, and now it's totally dead. Replaced the battery with no improvement... No interior lights, radio, or any sign of current flow in ANY part of the car. Cleaned battery cables and inspected all wiring between battery and starter, but saw nothing unusual. Could the ignition switch cause this, or maybe the starter itself? Or what else should I focus on? I'm desperate to get this econo-box back on the road!
