major coolant leak

I've noticed some drips of coolant recently that has now grown to coolant streaming out from what looks like an open drain elbow on the firewall below the heater inlet and outlet hoses for the heating system. Does this mean that my heater core has cracked. If so, what is a ballpark price to have repaired/replaced at a repair shop? It's a '98 Pontiac Grand Am.

yeah, heater core, and don't use stop leak! not saying you will, but bad idea most people think of being a good one. but usually around 50 bucks for the coil, depends on what the hourly rate of a shop is near you, some are easy to get to, others are not.

I agree.....heater core.

The only thing you might be able to do is by-pass the core; if you can't replace the core at this time. This would get you by, but you may find it cold; depending on where you live.

Good Luck and stay warm!
