92 Grand Am

I'm replacing the alternater and I'm have trouble finding where and how to loosen the tension on the belt.

You should have a spring loaded idler pulley. Depending on which engine you have, you either put a wrench on it and lift up, or some of them have a -inch square hole where you can insert a breaker bar and pull back on the idler to release the belt tensioner. Once you pull it back, slip the belt off of the alternator pulley and you can (slowly) release the tensioner.

my 93 grand am has a 1/2 in nut on the tension pully, there is a problem with lack of space so i had to get a crowsfoot wrench
