'81 VW Rabbit diesel questions

Okay, I need some help deciding which way to go here. I have the opportunity to pick up a 1981 VW Rabbit with the 1.5l NA diesel engine. The cost to me is whatever it takes to get the car off the lot (I will drag it, if necessary). I'm told the engine was allowed to overheat and is now seized. I'm also told that rebuilding the 1.5 NA is NOT the way to go, due to cooling problems, head issues, etc. What I would like to know is whether a turbo-diesel engine out of a later model Volkswagen would be a bolt-in replacement, and if so, what engine/engines and which model/models it would come from besides the Rabbit. The price of admission is so low, and I'm so stoked to try my hand at processing waste vegetable oil into fuel, that I'm willing to risk putting my wife in a bad mood to get into it. Any/all input on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance - Chris

Any decent junk yard (aka auto recycler) should be able to answer those questions for you.
