If the clutch chatters when you start out.... if the clutch slips - more noticeable in higher gears.... if the clutch wont disengage (though other factors may influence this).

If you do a lot of stop and go driving and have a lot of miles on the car, it might be an idea to plan for a clutch replacement. The clutch is a "sacrificial" assembly.... that is to say that it is going to wear out eventually. My personal opinion is that I would much rather deal with these sorts of things when it is convenient for me rather than when my car wont move anymore (which is usually at the most INconvenient time).

Clutch

I had to put a clutch in my truck about a year ago. It started out as a small grinding noise that got louder the more I drove it. It only made the noise when changing into first and sometimes second gears. FYI Its probably best to replace the pressure plate and pilot bearing also because any of these three can be gone.
