2002 Ford Ranger Drain plug size

Sorry for a dumb question, but I'm trying to change the oil on my Ford truck for the first time (finally tired of letting someone else do it). I've changed oil on a vehicle before, but it's been a while. I just wanted to see if anyone knew what size socket I need to remove the drain plug with? I'm thinking it might be a 16 mm, but I'm not certain, and don't want to strip the plug. Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Not likely to be a 16mm, that would be a fairly uncommon size. More likely a 15 or 14, but could be as small as a 12. I just changed the oil in my daughter's '96 Escort today and it was a 14.

Depends on engine size.. 4.0 is usually 13mm.... Most others in the Ford line-up are 16mm - same thing as 5/8ths...
