1998 Chevy Malibu
I just ran my car through emissions and it failed, the guy there said that it was because the check engine light was on. I went had the problem fixed and the lightis still on. I was told that the light had to be reset. Does anyone know how to reset the engine light?

In the first place it's a bit rediculous in my humble and ignorant opinion that it failed because the light was on, but thats beside the point.
I doubt that it's anything you could do yourself, newer american cars are quite computerized from what I hear.

If you have a local Auto Zone store, or Parts America, nearby they willl hook up a diagnostic code reader to your car, free of charge and also have the ability to reset the codes. If not, remove the positive battery cable and leave it unattached for 30-60 seconds, minimum, then reconnect it and start the car, doing this takes power away from the computer, forcing it to reset itself upon startup. The down side of this is that you will have to reset your clock and radio presets.
