Help! Heating/Air Con. Fan Is Talking To Me!

well, not exactly!
alot of cars have 4-5 settings for the fan, for the heater or air conditioning.
if you don't get it it's like:
1 = low
2 = medium
3 = high
4 = full blast!
5 (newer vehicles) = watch out! (haha)

1 and 2 settings don't work!
why is that?
the 3 and 4 setting work fine
car is '98 pontiac sunfire gt and have kept it in excellent condition, now this.
it's an electrical problem somewhat?
any of you peoples know how to correct this?
problem/solution?
please help!

You may want to acquire a service manual and check the wireing section to see if there is a ballast resistor for the fan motor.

Typically, the low, second, and third speeds are resistored and the high speed is full voltage.

The resistor could be electronic or ceramic type, I'm just not familiar with that particular vehicle.

Also the service manual will tell you where it is located and you will have a better idea what it'll take labor wise to replace it.

Besides, having a service manual for whatever vehicle you have is a valueable resource.

If you don't want to buy one try your local library.

Good Luck,
