drum brake adjustments

I have a 99 dodge grand caravan and need to adjust the rear brakes.....how tight should the brakes be after adjusting? should the drum barely turn....what is the best way to adjust them?...Thanks

If the self adjusters are working properly, i.e. not rusted up, merely backing up a few times and applying the brakes will adjust them. If you have just replaced the shoes and need a starting point, I usually tighten them up until I get a slight resistence. The auto adjusters should then get them set properly.

I have heard that you need to use the emergency brake to adjust the rear shoes. Any truth to that?
