96 Ford f150 stalling at start up when cold

Friend of mine's 5.0L F150 is starting to run rough now that the temp is below 0.
Check engine light is on and off.You have to depress accelerator to get started even after it has been running awhile.Does start but idles a little rough. If you dont step on the pedal when starting ai might start but then die righ out.Still has original fuel pump.Any best place to start checking 1st?Havent been able to read codes until tomorrow. And just incase, he did mention that last summer parked outside and after a heavy dew it would run a little rough until warmed up.Talking to him over the phone it sounds like an older choke problem. Also would an Idle Air control motor do this?
Thanks

Sometimes those IAC motors cause that by sticking closed. Usually wont set a code. Let us know what the codes say though when you get them read.
