97 Cavalier Thermostat

97 Cavalier Z24 2.4 eng auto
Engine is overheating and i think it might be the stat but i was told that the stat is at water pump and pump is inside engine.(Timing chain driven) is this so and is this a lot of labor job?
PS:Water is filled to top but overheats. NO leaks, Fan comes on ok. Water boils out the fill bottle.

Here's the thermostat info:

And the water pump:

You sure you don't have a blown head gasket?

Well i hope not! It acts like a stuck stat so i would like to try that first. Thanks for the info that pump must be hidden pretty good. I could not find it when i looked for it.

Might be worth pulling the spark plugs out for a look-see before you dive in. Look for one (or more) where the center electrode porcelain is very clean and white like a brand new plug; one of the symptoms of a head gasket (steam cleans the plug in the affected cylinder(s)). Also check dipstick to see that the oil appears normal.

I've never done a water pump on one of those, but it looks like a PITA.
