sputter shimmy shake

my 1993 jeep has been acting up. it starts fine but after a few minutes it sputters and then a check engine light comes on. when driving it seems to cutout for a second and stutter a little bit also when i deselerate the rpms drop to about 300 and it sometimes dies. ive been told it could be a vaccuum or fuel problem. any ideas?

Going to need to find out what codes the check engine light is setting. AutoZone will read the codes for free, but not sure if they can do OBD-I or not.

There's a procedure here: http://www.jedi.com/obiwan/jeep/dtc.html
that's suppose to work for the OBD-I stuff.

Get the codes and post back what you find.

A 24 code would be "flash..flash.............flash..flash..flash..flash".

Seems to me that I recall the throttle positioning sensors have been somewhat problematic on some years of Jeeps.

Several options:

1. Pick up a repair manual that will have the specific troubleshooting proceudres for that code.
2. Roll the dice and replace the TPS.
3. Take it to your favorite mechanic.
