Timing for 86 Corolla w/4AC engine

Does anyone know what the correct timing for a carburated 86 Corolla is? Also is it set with the vacuum advance and retard lines disconnected and plugged? Or left in place? Thanks.

Should be 5* BTDC
Check your VECI label though

Just detach the advance on '86s, and then plug the hose

After checking and adjusting if needed, you should then check it with the hose back on
It should read 13* BTDC

Thanks for the reply. The car's VECI label is missing from the hood. Do you mean to disconnect both vacuum lines and plug them? Or just the advance side? If just the advance side, would that be the connection towards the distributor or away from the distributor? Thanks again,

Just the advance side

Some years you disconnect them both, but not '86s, it's just the advance
Sorry, I can't remember which hose is the advance

I know if you re-check it with the hose back on, and it's not 13* BTDC, then you pulled the wrong one
